I work in a variety of mediums, including oil, charcoal and, most recently, bronze. Throughout all of my work, however, my aim is the same. So many of us walk through our lives not noticing that which is around us, the beautiful or the not so obviously beautiful, the silhouette of a building against undulating clouds or the graceful gesture of a woman’s hand. I feel that my job as an artist is to capture these unnoticed “gorgeous moments” and bring them to the attention of my viewers. I try to recreate the essence of my memories in color, light and texture. For me, every work has a sense of nostalgia, telling a story about the people and places that I have known. Currently, I am working on a series of paintings about my experiences living in Japan.
